These are the menus that I created for use on my BBS "The Quasatron Systems BBS"
(pronounced "qway-za-tron"). They are a SEMI pull down style. My original
intent was to present my users with a full blown pull down menu that displayed
EVERY POSSIBLE command available to them. Using "home cursor" rather than
"clear screen" or "none" allows the screen to redraw without scrolling. As it
turns out with a black background the screens don't properly over write the
previous one, and leave fragments of the previous menu on the screen. This
can be solved by adding a colored background. I did not want to do this and
instead settled for a clear screen command after each menu. The effect is
lessened but the basic premise of my concept is there. The screen clears,
and redraws with the selected menu highlighted and all non applicable commands
"shaded". I decide on this format after noticing that certain users seemed
(should I say "brain dead") a bit dense in reguard to menu useage. This way
they see ALL the commands available from ALL menus and what menu they need to
be on to use them. I've gotten positive comments from many and negative
comments from none. Another sysop has adopted the screens as a means of
assisting foreign users who already have trouble with the language.
The enclosed files are my high level menus only. The newuser menus have
featureds "shaded" according to the users access priviledges. I've included
ASCII, ANSI, and Wildcat! @ construct versions for ease in editing. If
someone comes up with a way to retain the black background and not clear the
screen please let me know. The effect is much nicer when it works that way.
